How the heavens is it already April?! Time is flying by too fast and I'm not a big fan. This week has been all work...and a little play :) And it's paid off - we had 7 investigators that came to listen to General Conference and they all loved it!
In normal schools they have snow days. Here in Deming they have dust days! Three days this week kids were let out of school early because the dust/wind was so bad they were scared they wouldn't be able to get everyone home. It's been a crazy week and I'm still finding dirt everywhere!
There's a lady in our branch who was baptized in August last year but her husband still isn't a member and she's been working hard on him. She's been trying to get him to agree to meet with us and just listen for a little - but it hasn't worked yet. We called her one day to have her come visit some investigators with us. She got in the car and told us her husband had asked where she was going. She replied, "I'm going with the missionaries to visit a lady and then afterwards we're going to visit a man who the sisters want to see but he hasn't let them yet." She said there was a pause and then he said, "It's me, isn't it! The man they want to visit is me!" She started laughing and confirmed. He agreed and now we're teaching him:)
We received a referral from the Elders and met with him this week. He is a Mexican that loves to read and believes in evolution rather than God - I didn't know these existed! But he's open and is going to read the Book of Mormon. I'm excited to build his faith and see him change. Yup, our new investigator is a Mexican Atheist.
We went to teach Geovani and Claudia this week (almost didn't because it was late, but really felt we needed to) and it was a really neat lesson. We taught about priorities and putting God first in every decision we make. After we finished, Geo said he's been thinking of doing something but wasn't sure and that we had just confirmed his decision. We asked what it was and he said he had just got his check from work from before he got laid off. He said right now they're really struggling with money and he was questioning whether to pay tithing on it or not. "But", he said, "this lesson just confirmed it - I'm going to put my trust in God and pay my tithing. That's a pretty cool answer, no?"
We were knocking yesterday and there was a lady outside talking to someone. She had on the shortest and tightest bright pink shorts I've ever seen. She called us over and then proceeded to tell us she was Mormon. I just thought, "Well, lady, let us come in and teach you cause there are a couple things you need to know about Mormons..." Haha She was sweet and we're going back to teach her about how our bodies are temple. :)
General Conference is like candy to missionaries - I don't know whether that's because we get 8 hours to receive personal revelation or because it's the closet thing we get to watching a movie...and it never lasts quite as long as I'd like. But, I loved it! We had a BBQ between sessions on Saturday and played a mean game of soccer. There were a lot of non-members there and it was great! Here are some things that stuck out to me from conference -
Elder L. Tom Perry: "Obedience is a Choice-- between our own limited knowledge and power, and God's unlimited wisdom and omnipotence."
Elder Marcos A. Aidukaitis: "One should not roam through garbage."
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf: "How quick we are to find the rainbow, before being thankful for the rain."
President Thomas S. Monson: "Blame keeps wounds open. Only forgiveness heals."
Bishop Gary E. Stevenson: "The miracle of the Atonement can make up for imperfections in our performance."
President Thomas S. Monson: "I know that God lives, my brothers and sisters. There is no question in my mind. I know that this is His work."
I, too, know that God lives and that He is directing this work. We are part of the greatest force on the world and have the greatest captain leading us. Share, invite, and be an example to others in all you do! Make the gospel part of who you are and let others see the light of Christ in you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! Eat a kebab and spaghetti ice cream for me:) I love you all so much and hope you had a blast camping with the Atwoods.
